Title:   Well
Category:   Well
Description:   Dumped filling above well, 4th-5th c. A.D., container 699.
A tiled well. Instead of the usual three sections in each ring, there were four. The fourth was extra, making the well larger, more elliptical and slightly irregular in shape. This contributed to the weakness of the well since although two clamps held each section to its neighbor, the fit was bad and the joins thus were weak. Also the tiles had become badly cracked. The diameter at the preserved top was 1.20m and remained the same as far as we dug.
Notes:   Not dug to bottom because faulty construction made digging too dangerous (up to 8m deep).
