Title:   Anta Capital

Description:   Hawk's beak of 5th c. profile; crowning ovolo rough. In top are cuttings for two Π-clamps leading back to wall block (originally they had intended but a single clamp in the middle of the block, for which a cutting remains largely removed by the bedding of the architrave).
The weathering suggests that the left side of the anta, as one faced it, was toward the outside.
Pentelic marble.
Notes:   Found at Q/5-16/1 (Fall 2016).
Context:   Reused by the builders of the Late Roman Fortification to cover a drain to east of tower at S.W. corner of Library of Pantainos.
