Title:   Lion's Head Spout Fragment
Category:   Architecture Terracotta
Description:   Two joining fragments preserve a large lion's head spout which has the lower jaw, right ear and much of the nose missing. Traces of color in the eyes; a red pupil, surrounded by yellow; inside of the eyelids red. Several dark red lines seem to be eyelashes. Two layers of clay: the inner a very light buff clay with dark intrusions. Over both eyes and brows a dark red finer clay. The darker clay apparently covered the entire head but has fallen off elsewhere. Between the coarse buff clay and the red clay, there appears to be a layer of yellowish clay.
Although somewhat larger, it is similar to A 2300 and A 2306 in ferocity and liveliness.
Context:   Scarp of modern road.
