Title:   "Stoker's Helmet"

Description:   Back and edges broken away. Helmet shaped terracotta object with six holes around sides. Nosepiece indicated in solid clay, also crest, decorated with four low bosses. Edge broken away in a manner suggesting that it flared out into a square tile of standard size (ca. 0.50m.). Possibly for insertion on floor above stoking chamber to provide light and air (?). Coarse red clay with bits. Very heavy.
Cf. another somewhat similar, A 2715 from Herulian context but with helmet-like aspect less emphasized. No traces of smoke inside either.
