Deep Bowl With Molded Rim: Pergamene Sigillata?

Three-fourths of rim and parts of body restored; footmissing.

Two glazed grooves at point of greatest diameter, near bottom of body, and two at top of body. Slight setback to neck. Broadly flaring and overhanging rim with ridge and deep groove on upper surface. Very micaceous, reddish yellow fabric (5YR 6/6); shiny glaze, red and black on outside, red inside, flaking on interior.

Possibly same pot as 1654. Fabric similar to that of Pergamene appliqué ware. General parallels may be found among Pergamene red wares: cf. PF VI, nos. 362, 363, p. 242, pl. 23, Type Sü 23a, pp. 165--166, datable mainly to the late 2nd and 1st century. Cf. also Samaria III, no. 3, p. 344, fig. 83:3; Pagenstecher 1913, no. 2, p. 116, fig. 128:2, nos. 31, 32, p. 148, fig. 161:31, 32. A vessel of similar shape in gray ware: P 3866.
