Fish-plate.

Foot and floor preserved.

Ring foot, convex to exterior; flat resting surface; convex underside.

Pronounced ridge around depression. Side of depression undercut, mound in center. Four radiating palmettes stamped around depression. Gritty, reddish yellow fabric (5YR 6/6) with mica and large white inclusions; thick, metallic black glaze with spalling on surface.

The profile of the depression, the ridge surrounding it, and the stamps identify the piece as an import. Stamped fish-plates are known from a variety of sites: Kalydon, no. 17, p. 419, figs. 144, 146; Délos XXVII, D 54, p. 248, pl. 43; Adriani 1952a, pl. IV:3 (Alexandria). For the profile of the depression cf. Pfrommer 1985, nos. 36, 37, p. 56, figs. 36, 37 on p. 70 (Miletos).
