Pan.

Floor and part of wall.

Cup rests on ridge; slightly convex underside. Conical profile; five grooves preserved on exterior. Emblem surrounded by two to three scraped grooves. Bust of Pan, with head turned to viewer's right.

Two horns grow from forehead. Ivy leaves over hair. Nebris worn over shoulders, the legs knotted over breast. A curved object, possibly a lagobolon, behind left shoulder. Paint on horns, ivy leaves, eyebrows, mouth, and knot of nebris. Metallic black glaze; miltos.

Same figure but larger than 381; from same mold as 1356.

Courby calls the type juvenile satyr (Courby 1922, no. 10, pp. 230--231). The best parallel is Pagenstecher 1913, p. 59, fig. 70 (called a satyr, but with horns). Cf. also Richter 1958, p. 375, fig. 28, pl. 93, a mold from the Chersonese; Barr-Sharrar 1987, C 95, pp. 56--57, pl. 31, a bronze South Italian(?) Pan, and TC 6, p. 116, pl. 63, a pyxis lid with young satyr, a lagobolon clearly visible behind his shoulder. For a complete cup with "juvenile satyr" type (without horns), see Watzinger 1901, no. 31, pp. 81--82.
