Fragment with part of rim, its vertical edge grooved. Glazed on underside. Part of rim broken. Max. dim. 0.06; est. diam. 0.06.

On top side: kantharos or calyx-krater (ribbed cul, stem, and foot) standing on a pattern of egg and dot. At the left, the end of a fillet, presumably tied around one handle of the vessel.

On underside: graffito, incised before glazing (Fig. 42).

For a kantharos on the lid of a pyxis Type D, see Tampa, Fla., ex Maplewood, N.J., Noble (seen from the side); the one found in a grave in Athens at Aiolou and Lykourgos Streets (Δελτ 29, 1973--1974 [1979], pl. 94: ε , seen from the side and placed on a table). For a calyx-krater, see Copenhagen inv. 953 signed by Gaurion as potter (ARV2 1360, 1) and St. Petersburg no no. (this has a ribbed cul, which may favor identifying the vessel on 1057 as a calyx-krater).
