Floor fragment. Max. dim. 0.045; est. diam of tondo 0.11. H. A. Thompson, Hesperia 17, 1948, pl. 68:1.

I, satyr (most of wreathed head with wrinkled brow) to right. Above:

Behind him, part of the reserved line for the tondo border. Preliminary sketch. Relief contour. Dilute glaze: wrinkles on forehead. Red: wreath; inscription.

The positioning of this fragment is contingent upon what the satyr is doing. Here are some possibilities. Satyr reclining against a pillow, peering into an amphora: Baltimore, Johns Hopkins B 3 by Epiktetos (ARV2 75, 56; Addenda 168). Crouching satyr holding a wineskin: London, B.M. E 24 by Epiktetos (ARV2 75, 57; Addenda 168). Satyr holding a drinking cup and flute case: Louvre G 76 by Skythes (ARV2 84, 16; Addenda 170). Satyr moving to right, holding a wineskin and a drinking horn: Munich 2589 by the Chelis Painter (ARV2 112, 1; Addenda 173). Satyr pursuing a maenad: Louvre G 68 near the Thalia Painter (ARV2 113, ---). Satyr running left, looking back, holding a full wineskin: Melbourne 1730.4 by the Nikosthenes Painter (ARV2 125, 20; Paralip. 333, 20; Addenda 176). Satyr kneeling to right, reaching into a large pithos set into the ground: Louvre G 91 by the Pithos Painter (ARV2 139, 1). Thus, on Pl. 151, 1601 may be mispoised.

The satyr on 1601 bears a slight resemblance to the one attributed to a painter near Oltos, London, B.M. E 812.1 (ARV2 68, 10), but there is not enough preserved on 1601 to be certain of an attribution.
