Five non-joining neck and body fragments, k with part of rim. Thin brownish black glaze on inside. Max. dim. a) 0.092, b) 0.086, j) 0.064, k) 0.055, l) 0.048. Choes and Anthesteria, p. 80, cat. no. 171, fig. 386 (a, b).

Fragment a (illustrated) shows a youth (most of body, part of thighs, right foot) to right with a cloak over his shoulder, a stick in his right hand (not preserved). Below, stopped-maeander pattern with checkerboard-squares, a dot in each reserved square. Fragment b (illustrated) preserves the lower right leg of a facing youth who stands on a door step with his left leg bent at a right angle (the knee, a bit of the shin, and the toes appear just below the top break). He probably leans against the door, a solid one that occupies the lower right corner of the panel. Below, more of the maeander pattern and at the right, a little bit of the chevron side frame. Fragment l (illustrated) comes from the upper right corner of the panel and shows a shaggy dog (three legs missing), uncertain what it stands on (the roof[?]). Above, part of a frieze of upright encircled palmettes and at the right a little more of the chevron pattern. Fragments j and k give more of the top and side patterns. Preliminary sketch. Relief contour. Dilute glaze: dog's coat.

For the combination of a frieze of upright palmettes above the figures and chevron side frames, see these three by the Eretria Painter: New York, M.M.A. 08.258.22 (ARV2 1249, 12; Addenda 354; Lezzi-Hafter, Eretria-Maler, p. 339, cat. no. 213, pl. 135:a, b); Athens, N.M. 15308 (ARV2 1249, 17; Lezzi-Hafter, p. 339, cat. no. 216, pl. 138:a--c); Louvre L 64 attributed by Lezzi-Hafter (p. 340, cat. no. 219, pl. 141:d). It is not certain if 639 is by the Eretria Painter, but it seems close to him.
