Aphrodite(?) (drapery) on a goose or swan (head, neck, wings) shown frontally. Preliminary sketch. Dilute glaze: cover feathers.

For Aphrodite on a swan or goose, see LIMC II, 1984, pp. 96--98, s.v. Aphrodite (A. Delivorrias et al.). If this is the subject on 903, then it seems to differ from the others, because the wings are not those of a bird truly in flight (its wings seem bent too sharply). Compare those illustrated in LIMC. Hyakinthos comes to mind, but he is not usually so heavily draped (an exception is Louvre Cp 11217, Cp 11218 + Erlangen I 459 by Oltos: ARV2 58, 45--46; Addenda 164; LIMC V, 1990, p. 547, no. 3, pl. 376, s.v. Hyakinthos); since he sits astride, if 903 represented Hyakinthos, one would expect to see part of his left leg next to the wing. For Hyakinthos, see LIMC V, 1990, pp. 546--550, s.v. Hyakinthos (L. and F. Villard).
