| Description: | From a vase cover (pyxis perhaps). Red brown on buff. ADDENDA 2018: Two joining sherds to a large flat lid with straight walls. The center of the cap is pierced with a perforation 0.0044 m in diameter. The exterior decoration consists of the following banding moving outwards from the central perforation: a thick band with thin band outlining it, followed by a group of two narrow bands, a group of three narrow bands, and a second group of two narrow bands running just inside the junction with the wall. The exterior of the wall preserved a medium band with narrow band just below at the junction with the cap. The paint is thick, somewhat streaky, but evenly fired brown. There are no traces of burning. Around the central perforation there are a series of incisions, which are difficult to understand. The appear paired and it is tempting to see them as decorative. Another possibility is that a sharp tool with two pints was used to extract something from the perforation? Furumark Shape: 334 | |
