Agora Object: H 377
Inventory Number:   H 377
Title:   Votive Oinochoe, Argive Monochrome
Description:   Stroke polishing on neck.
Unglazed and handmade.
Small, unpainted votives are found in great quantities at many sanctuary sites. Only about 100 were saved from the dump on Hymettos, although the total number found was probably much greater. Most of those saved resemble examples from the Athenian Agora published by Young, Hesperia, Suppl. II, 1939, p. 157, fig. 111, C 71-C 76. Dates can be assigned to these small votives only when they are found in datable contexts. They seem to occur with equal frequency throughout the 8th and 7th c. B.C.
For fabric and dating, cf. P. Courbin, La ceramique Geometrique de l' Argolide, pp. 29ff., 70 ff.
