Description: | Inscribed fragment of statue base. Mouldings about top and bottom; top ones carried around the two sides; bottom ones in simplified form about left side, not at right. Back surface rough picked. Cuttings on top for bronze statue; iron dowel set in lead below heels. Shallow bedding for right foot ca. 0.17X0.10m., no bedding but scratched line for left foot. Civica barbarus, consul, known as friend of Herodes. Seven lines of the inscription preserved. Pentelic marble. Cf. Hesperia 8 (1938), p. 328. Graindor (1930), pp. 157-158. | |
