Title:   Parapet Slab with Shield

Description:   Inscribed fragment.
Much of left side broken away; an angular cutting for a patch in lower right corner.
A round shield carved in high relief, on the face of the slab, topped by a simple cornice. Top and back rough; bottom and edges finished as joint surfaces. Inscribed in very faint letters 0.04m. high on face of cornice.
Hymettian marble.
ADDENDA Fragments of at least three other slabs of the same series have been found around the Altar where they were re-used as underprinning for pavement.
Context:   Found lying face down immediately west of the altar of Ares, toward its north end.
