Category: | Lamps | |
Description: | Lamp is attached to a high standard of which the front is in the form of a column. From the ridged necking spring two volutes; between them are raised loops, and below, above the necking, a band of raised leaves. The shaft of the column is fluted, and tapers toward the top; at the bottom it flares as if to receive a wide base. The back of the standard is undecorated. Double convex body, ornamented with ribbon-like loops. Narrow top, flat band, separated from the body by a groove. Brownish-black glaze, mottled red by firing at the bottom of the standard; on the lamp it has a metallic sheen. In the middle of the column is a wide reserved band. Attic clay. Mostly related to type XVIII of Corinth collection. Type 47A of Agora collection. ADDENDA The nozzle belonging to this lamp was listed separately as L 213, but has now been joined. Cf. Corinth IV, ii, p. 49, fig 24 and BMC Lamps, p. 37, fig. 30. | |
