Title:   Lamp on High Standard in Form of Column
Category:   Lamps
Description:   Lamp is attached to a high standard of which the front is in the form of a column.
From the ridged necking spring two volutes; between them are raised loops, and below, above the necking, a band of raised leaves. The shaft of the column is fluted, and tapers toward the top; at the bottom it flares as if to receive a wide base. The back of the standard is undecorated.
Double convex body, ornamented with ribbon-like loops. Narrow top, flat band, separated from the body by a groove.
Brownish-black glaze, mottled red by firing at the bottom of the standard; on the lamp it has a metallic sheen. In the middle of the column is a wide reserved band.
Attic clay.
Mostly related to type XVIII of Corinth collection. Type 47A of Agora collection.
ADDENDA The nozzle belonging to this lamp was listed separately as L 213, but has now been joined.
