Description:   Lamp with very large crudely made nozzle and raised rim round upper part of body. Tip of nozzle broken. Wheel made.
Rounding body, with down sloping rim set off from body by irregular groove. The wall of the lower part of the body contiues upward to form a high, slighly flaring edge round the upper part; part of this edge broken away.
In the angle between rim and the upper part of the body, five rather large holes.
High, vertical band handle.
Vastly too large nozzle; crooked and ungainly; intended to be flat on top.
Raised base, slightly rising in center; not trimmed, no glazed.
Slightly lustrous brownish-black glaze, heavily smeared on by hand.
Pinkish-buff clay, undercooked.
Type XII (early spreading variety) of Corinth collection, type 33A of Agora collection.
ADDENDA Lamps L 551 to L 559 found together. A number of fragmentary lamps from the same pithos have been boxed separately, along with the finer sherds. See also pottery 589-630.
