Title:   Red Figure Bell Krater

Description:   Fragments from rim, wall and foot missing; filled out in plaster. Laurel wreath on rim; maeander broken by checkerboard below scene; egg and dot around handles; double palmette ornament under handles; reserved groove around top of outer face of foot.
A) Four personages; from left to right: a wreathed and bearded individual, draped in an embroidered himation, right; his left hand covered by his cloak, his right hand extended. Next, Athena, right; she wears a thin embroidered chiton, crested helmet, and bracelet; she holds her spear, point to ground, in her left hand, and in her right an oinochoe. The third figure, Herakles, left, leans on his club, his lion skin over his left arm; much of his upper part is missing; a bit of a phiale, which he appears to be extending in his right hand, to be filled from the goddess' jug, remains. Behind Herakles, left, stands a youth, wreathed, wearing an embroidered chlamys, laced boots, and a hat behind his shoulder, and carrying two spears. His right hand is extended towards Herakles; in the field above his outstretched arm, a wreath.
B) Three figures, a woman in thin chiton and kerchief, right, holding out a torch; a satyr right, ivy-wreathed, his left foot on a rock, a thyrsos nearby; a youthful male figure, standing left, he is wreathed and wears a folded cloak across his back, one end hanging over his left shoulder, the other caught up by his right hand; in his left he holds a thyrsos. Rocky ground indicated.
Partial relief contours; brown for shading; white, yellowed over, for bracelet; white for berries of wreaths.
