Title: | Black Figure Cup Fragment
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | About half the rim preserved, mended from six fragments. A seventh which does not join gives another piece of the rim and top of the picture (crescent shield). The side of which most is preserved shows two horses and the forepart of a third, each accompanied by a filleted youth who carries a crescent shield and two spears. They advance right, toward the handle. Beyond, a warrior (body missing below the round shield); and in front of him a boy on horseback carrying a spear. Vine with clusters as filling ornament along the top of both sides. Accessory red: fillets, manes and one tail, shield border and a narrow band just below rim. White(?): the tunic of the rider and dots on the shields. Both glaze and color largely missing from foremost riderless horse. Inside glazed with diminishing reserved band near rim. Glaze rather good but fired greenish.
