Title:   Black Figure Loutrophoros
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Mended from many pieces; part of the vertical handle preserved but not joining (mended from two pieces). About a third of the rim missing and the back edge of the foot; also most of one horizontal handle and the whole of the vertical handle save the non-joining pieces.
Around the neck to the right, five women in chiton and long cloak. They are drawn as though their arms held something forward; but cf. Pfuhl (1923), fig. 211; the vertical strokes above on ours are probably filling ornament, like the vertical rows of dots which seem to drip from their arms in front.
Front of the vase, three women in similar dress approach right a youth in chiton and himation who holds out his hand to the foremost. Back and sides are divided vertically by the handles and their ornament (blobs crossed with incision). Under each horizontal handle is a small cloaked figure facing the front scene. On the back from either side a woman faces center; the vertical handle is off center so that on one side she is alone and on the other faced by a youth in himation. Filling ornament on the body like that on the neck.
Accessory red and white; incision for interior details.
