Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragment: Type B

Description:   Mended from three pieces; less than one-quarter of the rim and sides preserved with one handle and the upper part of the figured medallion.
Head of boy with wreath, right; traces of drapery over the boy's left shoulder; round his head a wreath, done in added clay. Relief contours; hairline reserved. The eye drawn full face, the upper and lower lines not quite meeting at the ends, the iris a small black dot on the lower line at about the middle. Large ear, little drawing. Hair line round the forehead a series of small strokes, rather heavy and far apart. Fine velvety glaze inside and out.
The glaze background of the medallion speckled with gray (apparently through injury in firing). Outside plain black glaze; handle space and inside reserved.
Context:   Rectangular rockcut shaft.
