Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragments: Type C and Inscribed
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Preserved are the center of the medallion, the stem as far as the base, and two non-joining pieces from the outer part of the medallion. The medallion depicts a nude figure standing right; missing are the back of the head and neck, the hands and the feet. Behind the figure a couch on which she is placing a pillow with stripes around the middle. At the left edge of the fragment, above the couch, a narrow vertical object (fillet hanging on wall?, flute case?). Relief contours, save for the feet and the front of the right leg. Some of the contours have fired black: the outline of the full-face eye is black, the iris red, the pupil a black dot within. The edge of the hairline scalloped round the face is also black. No interior drawing.
Outside fired red mottled with black on the lower part; on the two non-joining fragments, the red changes to solid black at a distance of about 0.01m. from the medallion ring; scratched lines top and bottom. The top of the stem reserved; beneath the base reserved with glaze dot and circle.
Hard orange red glaze. At the lower right edge of the fragment the remains of a painted inscription: <graphic>
