Title:   Black Figure Hydria Fragments

Description:   Many fragments making up to six. From wall of a closed pot of thin fabric, probably an hydria (or lekythos).
a) Lower margin of panel with legs of man walking right; behind him what appears to be the bound forelegs and part of shoulder and neck of an animal hanging down, probably from a stick. Red for animal's belly.
b) At left, part of brow of a horse right, with ear and eye, looking down at a small dog whose head and neck are preserved; then the lower part of a draped male figure left; then a second dog, left, and the left foot and part of the leg and drapery of another draped figure, also left, carrying a staff. Red for necks of the dogs, and the himations of the two figures.
c) Part of a draped female(?) figure, left, with outstretched arms; in front of the figure, parts of the hindquarters and tails of two horses, right, and of their reins. Red for most of the upper part of the peplos of the figure.
d) Bit of a figure with drapery(?). Red for part of the object.
e) Possibly part of the neck and shoulder of a dog, left. Red for dots at the neck and stripes below.
f) From the shoulder; glaze band at angle. A figure, running right, in a short tunic, over which is worn a spotted animal skin, girt tight at the waist. Spear(?) in right hand; knife sheath at waist. Red for tunic and belt.
Two red bands below figured zone; brown ground line. Added red freely used. Elaborate careful incision; incised ornaments and borders for the garments.
