Title:   Black Figure Lekanis Fragments

Description:   Two non-joining fragments from a lekanis with animal friezes.
a) From rim, with flange for lid, preserves part of head, back and wing of a siren, right; rosette filling ornaments.
b) From wall with part of two zones; upper with tail and leg of a siren(?), right, and hind leg of an animal, left; lower, at left, head and neck of lion, right, facing a stag, left, of which horns and ear and part of neck are preserved.
Purple on hair and wing of siren, mane and part of face of lion, ear and neck of stag. Incision freely used. Bearing surface of rim and a broad band inside lip are reserved.
Pinkish-buff clay, fair glaze, partly fired reddish inside.
ADDENDA These are conceivably from different pots.
