Description: | Two fragments, one from lower wall and base, and one from neck, probably from same closed pot with fairly tall narrow neck. Neck fragment preserves forepart of sphinx with border of crude chevron pattern at side of handle; crude incision on sphinx. Bars on shoulder. Above foot are rays, then a hatched pattern. Purple for sphinx's breast and shoulder and hair; two bands on wall between rays and hatchings. Coarse pinkish clay, buff slip(?); poor black glaze. Cf. P 3307 for fabric. | |
