Title: | Jug: Gray Ware | |
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | The handle, part of the body and upper part of the conical mouth missing. Squat rounded body, flat on the bottom. Ridges at junction of neck and shoulder. Pairs of faint grooves on body and bottom. Remains of gouging or grooves (vertical) on handle stump. Rather smooth set of grooves on outside of mouth. Black clay, with gray-buff surface; a little lime, mica. ADDENDA Unique here (P 21822 may be same ware). Appearance rather similar to MH Gray Minyan - perhaps Euboian? 'Metalware' form, perhaps a forerunner of local series with bulging mouths. [JWH 1999]. | |
