Title: | Black Glaze Lagynos Fragment with Incised Decoration
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | Fragments a) and c) preserve part of curved shoulder, suggesting a spherical body; fragment b) preserves part of narrow slightly concave neck. Soft buff clay like that of the white ground lagynoi. Except for scattered dots, the black glaze has vanished. On the shoulder, scratched lightly in the clay, a small pattern of acanthus leaves; traces of black glaze in the scratched lines. Is it possible that "incised decoration" provides guide lines for painting, and is not meant to be seen? Two non-joining fragments in envelope in B 150b.
