Title:   Red Figure Oinochoe Fragments

Description:   Four non-joining fragments (and a few small scraps) preserve parts of the wall, to the neck, and half the base. Round-bodied oinochoe (Shape III); ring foot rounded above, broad and flat below; fine scraped line at junction of foot and wall.
Part of the left side of the figured panel remains; upper border, large egg and dart below small egg and dot band; sides, chevrons; bottom, maeander with checkerboard squares. Maenad dancing, her forehead and the front of her head, her left hand, her foot (cf. scrap of foot on fragment b) and part of her lower legs missing. She wears a thin-sleeved chiton with girded overfold, bracelets, and earrings. Her hair is bound by a narrow triple fillet and ornamented with small leaves and white flowers. She dances with head thrown back and left arm raised; in her right hand a pair of flutes.
Excellent black glaze on inside to base of neck; brown wash below. Underside unglazed. Relief contour for flesh and in part for drapery. The hair is brown.
