Title: | Red Figure Skyphos Fragment
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | Two joining fragments preserve small part of floor and wall; foot broken away. Apparently from a large kotyle. Above a maeander which marks the base of the figured scene, appears the lower two-thirds of a leg; to the right are traces of scrolls belonging to the handle ornament. Base reserved, except for two small concentric glazed circles. No relief contour. Orange-buff clay; the glaze has fired red on the interior. On exterior, the background surface is mottled red and black, but the red color there and in the angles of the maeander has the appearance of being due to a second coat of glaze distinct from the black.
