Title:   Black Figure Lekythos

Description:   Complete save for chip from handle and many flakes from surface. Shoulder lekythos with low spreading foot and echinus mouth. Top of foot and lower body glazed, also mouth and handle. On front of body, Herakles and Triton wrestling; Herakles sits astride Triton left; Triton left with head turned back. Herakles wears lion's skin and cap, Triton a wreath on his head. Bearded draped figure runs up from left; standing draped figure at right. Dolphins in field.
White: belly stripe and tail of Triton; flesh of standing figure. Red: fillet and beard of Triton and nipple rings; band on his tail; cap of Herakles(?), stripes on drapery of running and standing figures; ground line.
On shoulder, lotus and palmette chain; on neck, tongues; fringe of strokes at base of neck.
