Title:   Black Figure Pyxis with Lid

Description:   Lid intact save for chip at edge. Straight wall and very slightly convex top, projecting a little beyond the wall and grooved near the edge. On top, a bird with spread wings, no incision; black glaze on edge, with a narrow purple band just inside. On side, wide black and narrow purple band inside it, along top and bottom; between these, key pattern, with rectangles between its bands. Inside plain. The lid when found (upside down) was full of a chalky substance.
Pyxis mended from many pieces; fragments of body, rim and floor missing. Straight wall and flat floor projecting slightly beyond bottom of wall to receive lid. On projecting edge of floor, purple; wide glaze band just below lip inside and out; glaze ring around center of floor.
Pinkish-buff Attic clay; black glaze in places highly metallic.
