Title: | Red Figure Oinochoe Fragment
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | Five joining fragments preserve parts of three figures: at left, draped female figure (chiton) holding torch; in center, Dionysos, seated, facing left, wearing an elaborately ornamented garment with long sleeves and holding thyrsos. At right Triptolemos, to right, holding a tall lotus-tipped staff one wing of his chariot remains. Careful work; relief contours only for thyrsos-stem and staff. Added clay for fillets (that of Triptolemos has perished and only the stain remains). A small bit of added clay, uncertain, to the right of the staff. Hair brown. Glaze rather dull. Inside unglazed.
