Title:   Red Figure Kalathos Fragments
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Parts of the walls and rim preserved, making up to six fragments. Nothing remains of the base. Flaring lower wall, forming an angle with the slightly concave upper wall; projecting rim, its vertical outer face in two degrees, the upper projecting above the rim, the lower overhanging. Wavy pattern on underside of rim; egg and dot around upper part of lower wall. The scene, dancing youths and girls, probably satyrs and maenads, seems to run right around the pot; what remains is more than enough for one side. There are no traces of handles.
a) White for the flesh of the woman who carries a tympanum. White also for her underdress; yellow over-painting, earring, and necklace.
c) A bit of a white petticoat.
e) Hand grasping a white object.
Brown wash on hair and tympanum. Glaze rather dull and streaky. A reserved groove around the lip, and another at the base of the wall.
