Description: | Broken all around. Pierced at center for ring handle. Head of woman left and head of Eros right, each with outstretched arm. A pointed object just beyond Eros; next to the break the arm(?) of a third figure. Above and beside the pointed object, as if hanging from the upper border, a large cluster-shaped group of white dots. White also for the rayed fillets of both figures. The central part of the lid is lightly moulded, alternately reserved and glazed. Ring of black strokes in the broader reserved band. Partial relief contour. An alpha, incised in wet clay at center, was partly cut away by piercing hole. ADDENDA Danae and the Golden Rain [J. Oakley, July 1987]. | |
