Title:   Cup Fragment
ΤΙΤΛΟΣ:   Κάνθαρος με παραστάσεις υδρόβιων πτηνών
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Joins P 214.
Three fragments joined, preserving nearly half of the circumference of the cup at the rim, and part of the body. The body was rounded, pinched in toward the top and flaring above to form a sort of rim. Around this rim and the upper part of the body is a procession of long-necked waterbirds, in silhouette, each separated from the next by a vertical band of "running dog" pattern. Below the birds are three narrow horizontal stripes. Parts of four birds preserved.
Clay fine buff. Glaze slightly lustrous, black to brown, much worn; inside of cup glazed.
Cf. Walters (1905), pl. XVII, no. 2.
ADDENDA Mr. Payne suggests that this fabric may not be the same as that of P 214, but might be Attic [25 March 1932].
These fragments join with those of P 214 to make one cup [1933].
