Title: | Black Figure Skyphos Fragment
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | A single fragment preserves part of the central portion of the body. All the rim, both handles, and the foot are missing. The interior is glazed in black. Of the figure scene on the exterior there remain the base of a palmette(?) and the lower parts of two human figures, one draped, the other nude or in armour - possibly from a combat scene: spectator and participant. Some careless incision. There is a reserved band beneath the figure scene. The central portion of the undersurface, within the foot, is reserved and reddened, and bears a painted dot and circle at its center. The interior of the foot was painted black. The glaze has fired black to brown.
