| Description: | Lekanis, complete except for small parts of lower body; restored in plaster. Deep, very pointed body somewhat warped below spout. Flaring ring foot. Walls taper below to a point inside the foot ring. Body bends in sharply at shoulder. Rim softly rounded on inside, has slight concavity on outside as if for cover. Horizontal rolled handles attached at shoulder rise vertically above rim. Bridged spout attached smoothly at rim and rising above rim. Glazed over all except for narrow uneven zone just above resting surface, underside of foot which has a broad glazed band inside ring, and a solid circle at center, and area between handles which has a wavy line of glaze in middle and a solid line below. Decoration in red and white over the glaze: white line in rim groove. Back handle zone divided into two broad panels by three vertical white lines which also set off handles. In each panel one white double spiral, the spiral-tops both attached to stem by loop zone, bordered below by two white lines enclosing a line of added purple. Third white line below handles. Corresponding front panels have a double M ornament drawn in red paint; the spout enclosed by red line. Farther down on body at broad, even intervals, three white lines: the middle one is not closed but overlaps under spout so as to be double; the lowest one at junction of foot and body. Pinkish buff clay, streaky red to black glaze; red glaze inside. | |
