Title:   Moldmade Bowl Fragments

Description:   Two joining fragments from bottom and lower wall, and a fragment of the upper wall. Medallion is large-scale head, facing, with curling locks to either side of face; Dionysos(?). A ridge and a scraped groove around the medallion. On the lower wall is a wide zone of leaf decoration: first two rows of small veined leaves, then broad petals with deep central ribs, and between the tips of the petals a palmette. This ornament is set off from the upper wall by two ridges. Of the upper ornament there remains, on fragment b), part of a large spotted animal (deer?) crouching right, and some uncertain traces.
Good firm glaze.
ADDENDA Same mold as P 26185 (GRE).
Context:   Martyr. South end only; from working floor down into pillaged foundation trench. Hellenistic but some early Roman fragments, doubtless from later walls.
