Title:   Red Figure Cup: Type B and Inscribed

Description:   Mended from many pieces; much of rim and wall and parts of medallion missing. Type B; thin disk foot.
Reserved band around tondo; within, a boxer running left and looking around; he still holds his hands in the attitude of fighting: left arm extended and right drawn back for striking; both hands clenched; he has thongs (himantes) on both hands.

Relief contour. Inscription once red: <graphic>
Clay largely fired gray.
For thongs bound around wrists only, cf. cup in Bologna with two boxers, CVA, pl. 1, 1 (ARV, p. 71); the style also not far off.
Context:   Well below Stoa gutter, box 13.
