Title:   Plate Fragment with Relief and Paint Decoration (Motto Plate)

Description:   Mended from five pieces. Additional fragments found in 1952 give complete profile (one rim fragment joins but is not joined).
Small flat bottom, no base. At the center, inside, surrounded by two raised rings, a moulded medallion of a seated dog. The upper part of the dog is missing.
Traces of ornament in white paint on inside walls; an inscription: <graphic>
Buff clay, dull red glaze inside and, streakily, outside.
Context:   Drain.
