Title:   Vessel Fragment
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Base fragment of large proto-Attic pot. Possibly a sixth of the circumference of the base preserved. Very heavy walls, flaring and rather thicker at the lower edge. From the resting surface it slopes inward, and then a little above half of the preserved height takes an outward flare. The inside of the foot is reserved. On the outside, above a wide glazed band at the lower edge, is a panelled design. At the right, below a cross-shaped design strengthened at the center by a large circle, a set of diminishing chevrons with their apices up. The vertical divisions between the panels and a line edging the field of the design at the bottom are in dilute glaze. Other parts of the decoration are in darker brown-black glaze, verging toward dilute at the edges.
Buff clay.
