Title:   Black Figure Neck Amphora

Description:   Mended from many pieces; the foot, most of one handle, and pieces throughout the body restored in plaster. The top of the lip reserved; the neck glazed inside for 0.042m. At the junction of the neck and shoulder, an irregular moulded red ring. Alternating palmettes on the neck; on the shoulder a band of short strokes; a palmette and lotus pattern at the handles and a lotus bud band beneath the figured panel.
A. Three warriors, each with crested Corinthian helmet, shield, greaves, cloak and two spears, marching left. Emblems on shields: serpent, leg, water bird(?).
B. Dionysos between two dancing satyrs. He stands left and looks back right. His tightly wrapped himation has two floating ends. The nude, long-earred satyrs dance toward him. In the field a vine pattern.
White for dots on the warriors' crests and for the shield emblems. Red for dots on the shield rims and on Dionysos' garment, also for his beard and the beards of his attendants.
Good glaze, worn on the preserved handle; an orange wash over the clay.
