Title:   Black Figure Lekythos

Description:   Mended from many pieces; the lip entirely missing and the handle save for its upper attachment. Strengthened with plaster at the back and on the shoulder; pieces missing throughout the body. Palmettes and a row of short strokes on the shoulder; at the top of the figured panel a zigzag band; below it a black band with red line and a reserved band. A moulded ring at the top of the foot, which is unglazed beneath.
In the center of the figured panel, a fawn, right, standing in front of a palm tree. To the left, a bearded figure, wreathed and cloaked, faces the fawn. In his left hand he holds a lyre; with his right he grasps the end of the animal's tail. A similar figure (head missing but from the drapery possibly female) faces the fawn at the right of the picture and holds out her right hand toward his head. Behind her, a Doric column. Vine filling ornament.
Careless incision. The glaze somewhat grayed. White slip covers both the shoulder and the figured panel, irregularly applied at the bottom.
