Title:   Black Figure Lekythos Fragment

Description:   Mended from three pieces; part of upper wall and small part of shoulder, the latter with debased bud pattern. Scene depicts Herakles and Nemean lion, with the crown of Herakles' head and his bow and quiver above. Preserved are the back of the lion, with Herakles' club(?) shown against it, and a bit of the head of an onlooker at the right. For the same scene in a similar style, much more completely preserved, see P 2695.
White for quiver strap, Herakles' club, lion's belly stripe and fruit of vine in field. Red for fillets of Herakles and onlooker. Dark orange wash. The vines in the field are relief lines.
