Title:   Black Figure Lekythos Fragment

Description:   Mended from many pieces; foot restored in plaster; parts of upper wall, most of the shoulder and all of the neck and mouth missing. Decorative panel depicts Herakles wrestling the Nemean lion. On left, man right, holding a sword(?); on right, two men left, the first almost completely destroyed, the second wearing himation and carrying staff. In field behind Herakles, branches on which hang his quiver and cloak.
White for fillet, sword and sash(?) of man on left, ornaments on garments of men on right and on Herakles' cloak, for strap of quiver, spots and outline of underside of lion, for sash on Herakles' shoulder, and for the fruit of the vines in the field. Red for fillet of Herakles and man at extreme right, and for stripes on garments. On shoulder of pot, debased lotus bud pattern.
