Title: | Steamer | |
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | Complete except for chips; mended and restored in plaster. High rounded pot set on and attached to high tapering stand. Out-turned flanged lip; canted handles. Only access to hollow stand is through 17 holes pierced through bottom of pot, therefore it is apparently not a brazier; perhaps for steaming or some sort of double-boiler effect, as lower part seems suitable to hold only liquid, with steam rising into the main body of the pot. Traces of burning on bottom. Clay similar to fusiform unguentaria; gray to orange outside, orange inside. | |
