Description: | Mended from 12 pieces. About half of diameter preserved. Rim is decorated with leaves of laurel over ovolo. Neck decoration: at left a Greek standing frontal with head turned facing out, right. He wears a thin chiton with overfold and is armed with a shield (which he carries on his left arm) and Attic helmet with cheek pieces turned up. They are decorated with bearded serpents. In center is an Amazon facing front with head turned to left. She wears a corselet and cap and has a spear in her upraised right hand. At left, another Amazon dressed similarly, carrying a black shield, holding a spear in her right hand, facing left. Shading of helmet, interior of shield, lines of musculature, hair, in dilute glaze. Red clay. | |
