Title:   Black Figure Siana Cup Fragments

18 fragments; making up to 15.
a) Fragment of offset lip and body, with the shields of two warriors, one with device of lion's head, overlapping from body to rim. Inside, a reserved band at the edge of the lip. At the left of the piece, outside, a spear head(?) incised.
b) Fragment of lip broken away below juncture with body. The upper part of a shield, with lion's head device, as last. The eye and helmet of the warrior who holds it, and a bit of the edge of the shield of his opponent. a) and b) are probably from opposite sides of the cup, the central group in each case.
c) Fragment from lip, as the last: face and helmet of a warrior holding a shield; no device preserved.
d) From lip; head and shoulders of a youth left, wearing a cloak. Probably part of the same figure as e).
e) (two joining). From body of cup. The lower part of the body, and the legs to the knees, of a figure left, with the ends of his cloak (one end red). Probably same figure as d).
f) From body. At left of fragment the edge of a garment, hanging.
g) From body. The ground line and the black below it. At right, a foot, at left, a bit of a white object.
h, i, j, k) Fragments of the decoration about the inner medallion: tongue pattern; outside, between lines, a double row of dots. Fragment h) (two joining) preserves part of the ground line and the field of decoration of the exterior (no figures) All four fragments give the reserved band with five fine lines (brown) on the exterior below the decorated field.
l) Fragment of lip; no decoration.
m) Fragment of handle, reserved inside.
n) Fragment of body with trace of handle attachment.
o) Fragment of base, reserved within, beneath, and on outer edge.
Red for lions' manes, parts of cloaks, helmets, alternating tongues. White for helmet crests, dots on shields, bands on cloaks. Careful incision.
ADDENDA 46 fragments (including those mentioned above); at least 8 different cups may be identified among the fragments.
a) Fragment of offset lip and body, with some of two confronted warriors (shields, one with lion's head device; spearhead and nose of left warrior) Reserved band on inside below rim.
b) Fragment of offset lip. Warrior (upper part, raised arm with spear) to left holding out shield (device: lion's head). On the left, the rim of his opponent's shield. On the right, raised right arm of a warrior to right.
c) Lip fragment: warrior (some of helmeted head and shield), to left.
d) Lip fragment: head and shoulders of youth in a cloak, to left.
e) Bowl fragment: thighs, ends of cloak of youth to left, not the one on d).
f) Bowl fragment: some of chiton and cloak.
g) Bowl fragment: on left, some of chiton; on right, male foot, lower leg, to left.
h, i, j, k) Bowl fragments: some of decoration round tondo: dicing, lines, tongue pattern; fragment i) with some of figures on outside: man (feet, lower drapery), facing two others (legs, some of drapery). Below: band of lines.
l) Lip fragment: no decoration.
m) Handle fragment.
n) Bowl fragment with root of handle.
o) Foot fragment.
p) Bowl fragment with handle root on left. On right, feet and lower garment of man to right. Below, some of the lines; on the inside, some of the lines round the tondo.
q) Tondo fragment: part of animal (deer) to right.
r) Tondo fragment: head of deer on q).
s) Lip fragment: no decoration.
t) Tondo fragment: some of dicing and lines.
u) Lip fragment: back of head and shoulders of male, to right.
v) Lip fragment: left elbow and shoulder of male to left; another figure (woman) to right (back of head; shoulder?).
w) Bowl fragment: male foot and lower leg to left.
x) Lip fragment: head and shoulders of youth to right.
y) Bowl fragment: male foot and lower leg to right.
z) Lip fragment: raised right arm, shoulder, end of helmet crest of warrior to right.
aa) Lip fragment: head and shoulders of man to right.
bb) Lip fragment: parts of two figures (shoulders?), one to right, the other to left.
cc) Lip Fragment: raised right arm with spear, some of helmet and crest of warrior to left.
dd) Bowl fragment: head, some of shoulders, spear, shield (winged device) of warrior to left.
ee) Bowl fragment: lower part of leg (greaved), end of toe of other foot of warrior to left.
ff) Lip fragment: two confronted warriors (some of shields; part of spear at left).
gg) Bowl and lip fragment (overlap part): two confronted warriors (some of shields; part of legs of right).
hh) As gg): part of right warrior on gg) (some of shield, shoulder).
ii) Bowl fragment: symposion (one leg of each of two couches, leg of table in front of left couch).
jj) as ii): leg of table; corner of stool.
kk) as ii): part of piece of furniture (horizontal).
ll) as ii): foot of leg of couch.
mm) lip fragment: sphinx (some of face, back of hair, part of wing), to left.
nn) Bowl fragment: woman (lower drapery, feet) to left.
oo) Bowl fragment: root of handle in upper left; part of drapery of figure on right.
pp, rr) Lip fragments: decorated with ivy.
ss, tt) Foot fragments.
Red: lions' manes, insides of shields, alternate tongues, neck of deer on q), forepart of wing on mm); most cloaks. White: chitons, dots on shield rims, some devices, belly stripe of deer, segments of helmet crests, female flesh, upper part of couch legs.
