Description: | Broken at top and bottom. Neck decorated on one side by moulded, plastic head. Figure wears elaborate headdress consisting of a wreath of leaves above which there is a curved crown with a loop on either side holding in place a veil which appears to fall behind head onto shoulders. Back and inside of lekythos neck covered with black glaze. Head with headdress covered with white paint; traces of red paint on veil and loops of crown. Orange fabric. Cf. T 4089, T 4100. ADDENDA Secondary archetype in museum suggests type is that of woman nursing child Dionysos, with arm raised to ward off danger. | |
